Here's a great example of how you can completely transform your guest room, with a quick and easy makeover.

What's my definition of "quick and easy"? No power tools, just paint and decor.

Easy enough for anyone to execute, yet with the right guidance, you can completely transform and elevate your space.

The Space- Guest bedroom in a traditional- classic farm house

Prior to our makeover this space felt like an after thought. It's so common for a guest room to get all of the random leftover furniture pieces, and feature the same paint colour that was there when you moved in.

It makes sense, these spaces aren't used nearly as much as the rest of our home, but in my opinion that what makes them the perfect space to have fun with the design!

The Plan

Keep it neutral- As always, it's important to consider the room within the scope of the whole home. Cohesive style is key for a space that feels professionally designed. Keeping the colour scheme neutral was important for this classic-traditional farm house.

The paint colours are White Dove and October Mist, by Benjamin Moore. Two tried and true neutral paint colours.

Make it fun- although neutral and calm, the contrast trim, painted ceiling and statement artwork make this space unique and interesting.

The Result

First a fresh paint job. I used neutral colours with an unexpected design.

Despite what you may think, the painted ceiling and contrast trim (October Mist, Benjamin Moore) do not make the room feel dark, especially when paired with a light and creamy wall (White Dove, Benjamin Moore).

This design choice achieves the goal of highlighting the beautiful mill work and adding visual interest, while staying true to the classic style of the home.

The second and final step was to add furniture and decor items.

The black bed frame was new. But the mirror, desk chair curtain rod were existing pieces that were updated with a quick coat of spay paint, to continue the black accents.

I introduced neutral window coverings and bed linens, leaving the vintage artwork as the statement piece! I am always collecting unique pieces like this to use in client projects, however this one came from the home's garage!

Now finished, this project is a great reminder that not every space needs a major renovation. Often times, you can achieve a dramatic transformation with just a few simple changes.

If you have a space that could use a makeover, let's work together! With an easy to follow design plan that works with your space, style and budget, I can help you love every space in your home.
